The Pegan Diet

By

Mark Hyman, MD

I continue to try to educate myself on eating healthy.  I enjoy listening to Dr. Mark Hyman’s Farmacy podcast so I decided to pickup his latest book, The Pegan Diet: 21 Practical Principles For Reclaiming Your Health In A Nutritionally Confusing World.  The 21 principles should have been a clue to me that this might be a bit overwhelming which I thought it was.  If you have ever heard Hyman speak you know that he does so quickly and the listener feels bombarded with information.  This book felt the same way,

The book’s premise is that there is significant overlap between a paleo and vegan diet.  Meats and fats are important to fat burning and low carb veggies (and a little fruit) bring important nutrients to the equation and should be part of your diet.  The book also reinforces how bad sugar is for our body, talk about the emerging information on gut health and more.  Most importantly, the book tells us that our bodies react in different ways and we must listen to our body and learn what foods are helping and hurting us.

There is something for everyone in this book and I suggest that you choose a few things that you believe can help you and save the remaining principles for another time.
