While We Were Watching Downton Abbey

I only recently became a Downton Abbey fan.  I finally watched every episode and the movie earlier this year.  Naturally, when I stumbled upon this book. I just had to read it.  And I am glad I did.   While We Were Watching Downton Abbey by Wendy Wax is a novel about three women: Brooke, Claire and Samantha living in an upscale condo in Atlanta.  Each woman is facing her own issues and trying to find a way forward.  One is a recently divorced mother of two young girls with a selfish ex-husband.  The other is a writer with a looming deadline and writer’s block and the third character is facing a crisis in her marriage.

The concierge at the condo building is a Brit who brings the women together weekly for a Downton Abbey viewing party.  During the process they forge a friendship and help each other through trying times.  While the stories are not necessarily unique, the characters are well-flushed out and their struggles are relatable.  While there are only a few fleeting references to the show it’s still a fun read.  Kudos to the author who was smart enough to capitalize on a sensational tv series and din the process write a nice, light novel.
